: happy little monster (and coffee filter flowers!)

Linking here: Today's Creative Blog

Isn't he cute?

It's from Magistical Memories and the googly eye made us all giggle.

Speaking of happy little monsters... my lil monsters and I made this:

Julie Ann showed how to make these adorable coffee filter flowers. We had the best time making them because you really can't mess them up and its a totally kid friendly project. Just flatten out about 8 or 10 or so filters and then secure them all together with a brad in the middle. Then layer by layer, just crumple and crumple. That's it. See? So easy. If you're wanting color, just paint before you layer them all. Lover of all things of a similar nature grouped together that I am, I had to make a grouping of these.

We used an old picture frame, scrapbooking paper scraps and glue.

I was on such a roll that I decided to use up some fabric scraps and stitched some triangles to grosgrain ribbon and now my girls have a "circus all the time" - the banner reminded my oldest of a circus and yes we do have a circus here all the time so it is very fitting. :)

Happy weekend!

: yummy stuff with marshmallow fluff

We wanted to make Bakerella's cake pops. So we did. And we need practice because they didn't turn out quite as adorable as what she's got going on over there on here website, but they tasted really good so it was just fine anyway.
And I don't mind doing it all again, they are fun to make!
But we had a ton of the mixture left over so we made a few cake balls. Needed a yummy glaze to drizzle over them... so I made up my own glaze. Now, I never ever make up my own stuff in the kitchen because I'm just no good at it. BUT this turned out great!

Melt a few tablespoons of butter, mix with a few tablespoons whole milk, a teaspoon of vanilla and then mix in a giant glob of marshmallow fluff. (make sure the fluff gets all melted)

Then mix in enough powdered sugar so the mixture is a good consistency to just dump over the cake balls.

Yum. They are GOOD.

And here are our funny little cake pops! I think these are going to be a favorite treat for my little girls, they seemed to get really excited about them.

Yes, we need practice. But they are a fun treat for a 5 year old.

Have a great week! :)

: Homemade baby birdie sundress

Sundress? I realize most of the nation is under a few feet of snow but its warm here! And while at the fabric store, my baby girl started going crazy and making birdie noises and pointing to this bright fabric with the cute bird print:

While I am no expert seamstress by any stretch of the imagination, this little sundress is the easiest thing to make!
It is basically a tube.
Just hem the bottom and gather the top.
Then add cute straps or just thread ribbon through where you gathered the top and tie over your little one's shoulders.

I decided to use this wide, bright grosgrain ribbon with big, mismatched buttons for a fun touch.
Little tip: To keep the ends from unraveling, I just dabbed on a bit of fabric glue (I love fabri-tac).

A lining is easy too, just make another tube of white cotton and slip in inside.

Enjoy and happy Tuesday!

: 3 things for today.

#1. The new sassafras lass nerdy bird stuff is so cute, its killing me! Have you seen that?? Look:
I haven't seen it in stores yet, and I can't wait to snatch up the whole collection. Perfect for little baby girlie scrapbooks!

#2. Yep, I totally changed the name of my blog. I have had this little 'makenzi & madilyn' business for a bit and wanted to do a website for it but I can barely keep up with ONE blog - what in the world would I do with two?? so I figured to just change the name to what I wanted. Soon I'll put up pics of what that's all about, more crafty stuff. :)

#3. I treated myself to a little treat! To this- its on SALE at Anthropologie:

If you're an Anthropologie shopper, go now... they have very cute stuff on sale!

And that's it.
my three things for the day.

Happy weekend!

: easy polymer heart pendants

These are so easy to make! And fun too.

Just make a ball out of a deep shade of clay. About an inch in diameter or a little smaller is a good size.

Then make a cane out of rolled out translucent, white, and silvery gray clay. Make 4 indentions lengthwise in the cane with a bone folder or business card or heavy cardstock. Then when you make slices of the cane, you'll have a sort of abstract flower.

Cut really thin slices of that cane and use these to cover the deeper colored ball of clay you made earlier.

When its all covered, roll back and forth to form the bottom of the heart, and use that bone folder or business card (or whatever you use to do stuff like that) to form an indention in the top of the heart, to form the two lobes. Smooth it out until you have a shape you like.

Insert a wire circle in the top so you can hang it from a chain.

Experiment with different colors:

There you have it.
Happy Monday!
