Semi-DIY Welcome home shadow box

Homegoods usually has a great supply of
these wonderful hinged shadowboxes:

They're perfect for people who like to change up
home decor on a whim, because they have a
background suitable for pinning your photos
and whatever else you want to put in there.

I found this pretty French Country style
box on my last trip to Homegoods and decided
to make up a little something to go by the front door.

 Gather up a family photo,
a "welcome home" sign and
a few other decorative crafty things
like scrapbooking supplies and
a vintage printers block:

I hand embroidered my own welcome home sign,
with scrap fabric and a little oval wooden
embroidery  hoop.
Write out your message on the fabric
and use a split stitch or backstitch to embroider
right over your words:

For pinning the photos and other items, make
cute little pennants from straight pins and
washi tape:

Sandwich the pin in between the fold of the tape
and trim the edge:

The pins with little pearls on the ends are
really cute:

Arrange all your things inside and shut the door.

So quick and easy, and very sweet to
come home to.
:o)

Have a great weekend!

Fox brooch for kids and embroidery hoops as art.

If you make things for your kids
and like to sew
then this shop is for you:

I've made several of her cute and adorable
characters, like these "dainty darlings" :

 And this raccoon:

And here is the latest thing
my girls are in love with:

You get an owl pattern too, along with the fox:

Her patterns are so easy to follow and everything
turns out very adorable!

And for the hoop art, here are some new things
in the Makenzi and Madilyn Sew shop:

Embroidery hoops are fun to decorate with- they are
lightweight, colorful, have a retro vibe
and make a statement if you collect them
and group them all together.

Sweet art for your wall or shelf.

Have a great week!

Custom embroidery designs

This one is my most popular item, a quote
by Ralph Waldo Emerson:
"Live in the sunshine
Swim in the sea
Drink the wild air."

Live in the sunshine hoop: here

Ampersand hoop:  here

You can pick white or off-white fabric background
and thread color of your choice.  (There's some pictured above)

I don't use a machine to embroider anything, its all done by hand!
So allow about 3 days for me to get the hoop done
and then I use priority usps shipping, so usually
you get it in a week or so from the time you order.

Have a great week!

: say no to plastic bags

I read Dr. Mercola's website quite often
and today's feature article renewed my resolve
to use reusable bags for groceries:

"On a worldwide scale, each year about 500 billion to 1 trillion plastic bags
are used worldwide. At over 1 million bags per minute, that's a lot of
plastic bags, of which billions end up as litter each year,
 contaminating oceans and other waterways."

Here are some wonderful alternatives to plastic bags:

This one is beautiful!

I found a large "fresh food care-ier tote"
at

This one is so pretty:

From Eco-Friendly Beauty

And of course there are the ones you can buy
for just a dollar or two from the store
you shop at.  It is good to keep a variety on
hand so you are never without a
reusable bag!

Those are just a few of my favorites-

: tanganyika wildlife park

If ever you find yourself near Wichita, KS, you must visit
Tanganyika Wildlife Park!

More fun than you can imagine, getting to actually
feed and touch the animals.

These lemurs are so CUTE.  They climb onto your
lap and snuggle.  omg the cuteness.  We wanted to stay!
Had to drag the kids out finally. Well,
had to drag ourselves out.  The adults had just
as much fun as the kids in here.

Definite must do if ever you are in the middle of the U.S.

Thanks for stopping by-
Have a great weekend!
